[Gillard] Rex Yau is an award winning designer and filmmaker who had received his Master of Architecture degree at Cornell University and a professional architecture degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte while studying studio and darkroom photography at the same time.



 

His professional experience included practicing at the world renowned architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro which designed the Highline in New York City; later became a freelance model designer and fabricator at Brooklyn Model Works for Fernando Romero EnterprisE (F.R.E.E.), which the body of work was exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City on December 12, 2012.



C[sea]-Change was a winning short film for the Mercedes-Benz of United States C-Coupé Your Week program of 2012, which Rex wrote, directed and filmed the project with a given Mercedes marketing car. He also won MASScanvas design competition in 2011 judged by internet celebrity - iJustine.



His past and current clients included Yamaha Golf Car, DIY Network, Teen Vogue , Costal living, Milliken, Universal Furniture, Biscuitville, CSX, Food Lion, blu eCigs, Sony ON (America’s Got Talent, New York Fashion Week 2012), Oreo, Otterbox, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Socialbliss, Hoffmann Machine Company, Oak Hill Iron, and numerous boutiques designer and furniture brands.



Rex is currently pursuing his professional as a cinematographer in the film and commercial industry while practicing in his parallel profession as a designer. He is an owner of a RED DSMC and has 16-year experience with the Canon EOS system; he also film with a set of Zeiss Primes as well as anamorphic cinemascope.
